At skills club we will be adding a professional finish to your dog training. This course is designed to help you consolidate your bond with your dog, as well as achieve a level of control that you see with working dogs. The methods we use are easy to follow and fun to learn for both you and your dog. We will be teaching you how to achieve good distance control, which means doing the things they can already do at a distance away from the handler. (Think about how sheep dogs lie down at 50 metres away from their handler). We will also be showing you how to do sustained behaviours. When we initially teach the 'hand touch' cue, we only ask for a quick nose bop to the hand. When we do a sustained 'hand touch' cue, we can then apply this to consensual care giving, such as grooming and veterinary care. This can help overcome problematic behaviours during vet visits as well as being a super effective way to teach focus and trust. Once you know how to teach a sustained 'hand touch', its very easy to apply the concept to pretty much anything that your dog can already do. It is a wonderful way to communicate with your dog very effectively and they will thrive on the challenges, making you even more wonderful in their eyes. The lessons we will be teaching at skills club will have your dog even more willing to please you than they already are. You will find that they listen to you more than ever when you speak to them and they will become more cooperative in distractive environments.
